School Library Journal - 02/01/2024 Gr 2–3—Fans of the beloved series Avatar: The Last Airbender get three familiar stories in this anthology adventure. In the first tale, Aang accidentally goes undercover in the Fire Nation school and wants to give the students more freedom through dancing. The second entry sees the characters tasting a potion that makes them think they are in love with different characters—only to find out the potion may not be the cause. The final story shows Sokka, the only character without a bending ability, becoming a master swordsman. All three short stories can stand alone and briefly summarize the overarching plot, featuring the main cast in comedic shenanigans while still moving toward the larger plot of restoring balance to their world. While none of these are different from episodes of the show, they offer the opportunity for the series to live on with early readers. Similar reads include other Step into Reading friendly faces, such as Super Mario: Meet Mario! and Quest for the Heart (Disney Moana).VERDICT A familiar adventure with beloved characters, great for elementary readers.—Hilary Tufo - Copyright 2024 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
