Full Text Reviews:

School Library Journal - 03/03/2023 K-Gr 2—Kamala Khan seems like an average teenager, happily living with her parents and brother in New Jersey. She goes to school, does her homework, and has friends. But Kamala is also the superhero Ms. Marvel. After experiencing a strange encounter with a mysterious mist, she begins to notice changes in herself. She feels stronger and has powers she never had before. She can easily move objects out of her way, her body can grow to incredible heights, and her arms and legs can become rubberlike so she can climb between buildings. Ms. Marvel leads a team of superheroes called the Champions, whose mission is to protect the world. The team's exciting adventures and encounters include saving the world from villains like Kaboom, Warbringer, and Lockdown. Sometimes there is a need to call in other experts, such as Spider-Man and Iron Man, to assist. A diverse cast includes several Muslim and female characters. Colorful, eye-catching pictures will hold children's attention. Text is limited and adds to the illustrations, though some of the words will challenge young readers and help expand their vocabulary. VERDICT The superheroes in this fun reader will delight and engage emerging readers.—Barbara Spiri - Copyright 2023 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
