Booklist - 05/15/2022 Divorce is a difficult process for the parties involved, but it can be especially tough on children. This picture book beautifully relates what that process can look like with respect and sensitivity. The young main character in the book starts by associating Thursdays with the awful day she learned her parents would be splitting up, after which she withdraws a little from her daily life. Her stuffed unicorn becomes a very important friend and supporter during this time while she copes and processes, and, eventually, life goes on. The story acknowledges that there will be good days and not-so-great days, and it shows the little girl having positive and fulfilling interactions with her peers and her parents once she has accepted the change and is ready to move forward. The soft pastel palette of the illustrations has a calming effect that even adds some whimsy to the story, giving her unicorn buddy—who is personified as the narrator as well as a friend who takes her on adventures—a warm, fantastical presence on the pages. - Copyright 2022 Booklist.
