Their teacher has posted a "Who's Lost a Tooth?" calendar on which students are encouraged to record the date, time, and place where the event occurs. Most of the kids add entries, and Lucy begins to feel as if she will never lose a tooth. Of course, she does eventually get to put those important second-grade skills to the test. Appealing watercolor artwork appears on every spread and features a diverse group of children and a likable and fun-loving Mr. Reilly. Booklist - 07/01/2008 Losing a tooth is a big deal in Mr. Reilly’s second-grade classroom, where the children keep a chart showing the date, the time, and the place, as well as the story behind each tooth loss. Lucy, the only one in her class with all her baby teeth, longs to add her name to the list. But when she finally loses a tooth, it falls onto the snow at recess and she truly loses it. Happily, all of her classmates join the search for Lucy’s precious tooth. One of the few loose-tooth stories that doesn’t end with a visit from the tooth fairy, this realistic classroom tale features a reward that has nothing to do with money. The low-key story is nicely illustrated with watercolors and is well suited to either independent reading or classroom sharing. A good addition to Borden and Gustavson’s string of satisfying, school-centered picture books, which includes Good Luck, Mrs. K! (1999) and The John Hancock Club (2007). - Copyright 2008 Booklist.
