Full Text Reviews:

School Library Journal - 09/01/2014 PreS-Gr 2—In this book modeled after the cadences of Ruth Krauss's classic A Hole Is to Dig (HarperCollins, 1952; 1989), a childlike voice explains the many characteristics and uses of books. The story will charm bibliophiles with declarations such as "If it's Sunday and raining, a book is the perfect thing. Even a small book, because boredom can be very big." Delicate paintings show a variety of realistic and fantastical reading situations (though not much diversity). While the text emphasizes print, some of the illustrations do sneak e-readers into the mix. As an extra treat, a secret reader is painted on the case beneath the book jacket. There is no real story line here, just a meditation on the joys of reading. This tiny tome will make an excellent gift for the book lovers and librarians in your life and might make a good marketing tool for the other books in your library.—Heidi Estrin, Congregation B'nai Israel, Boca Raton, FL - Copyright 2014 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
