Booklist - 10/01/2024 Part of the True Book: The Earth at Risk series (5 titles), this ecological call to action introduces types of grasslands, explains how they're crucially important in mitigating the effects of climate change, and outlines threats to their survival (other series titles address desert, forest, ocean, and tundra biomes). Full-color photos dominate most pages, and brief, accessible paragraphs of text are supported by vocabulary bubbles, maps, sidebars, and a time line. All is not doom and gloom, with considerable space dedicated to solutions, success stories and restorations (prairies, endangered species), and a profile of a kid hero (a volunteer at a grasslands national wildlife refuge). Back matter includes a recap of basic facts and statistics pulled from the text, a glossary, and a brief bibliography. This offers great support for report writers. - Copyright 2024 Booklist.
