Booklist - 11/01/2024 A prolific author of sports books as well as middle-grade biographies, Buckley now introduces young sports fans to outstanding contemporary athletes. While many are Americans, the scope of the book is worldwide. A typical double-page spread presents four people with a paragraph of relevant information for each person, accompanied by a color photo, usually showing the player in action. Entries for certain athletes are presented on a full page, while a double-page spread is devoted to superstars such as Simone Biles, Stephen Curry, Novak Djokovic, Katie Ledecky, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Diana Taurasi. The summaries of the sports stars' accomplishments are varied in content but always quite readable. The athletes are presented in alphabetical order according to their last names, giving fans of one sport exposure to star players in others. The number of athletes representing a particular sport seems to align with its relative popularity with young American spectators.
