Full Text Reviews:

Booklist - 12/15/2019 The latest in the You Should Meet biography series focuses on Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The book gives a brief biographical overview and explanation of why “you should meet.” Five short chapters trace Ginsburg's life from childhood to now, focusing on the barriers she and other women facedin education and the workplace. Final pages give fun facts, a quick description of the Supreme Court, and a short biography of her husband, Martin Ginsburg. The last page is a reproducible comprehension quiz (though its dark red paper will make photocopies challenging). Written at a transitional chapter book level, the text is mostly accessible and slightly breezy in tone. Full-color illustrations are engaging and well done, but despite their frequency and the book’s large font, the pages feel text-heavy. While some vocabulary (“notorious,” “dissents”) is defined, other challenging words (e.g. persecution, furrier, the concept of highest court) appear with little context or pictorial support. A solid choice for large collections and where early elementary biographies are in demand. - Copyright 2019 Booklist.
