Booklist - 04/01/2019 This “shark-tastic” entry in the Just Ask! series (2 titles) deploys its facts through an engaging Q&A format and playful tone. A surprising amount of trivia can be gleaned from its watery pages, from sharks’ ability to sense electricity to ancient tangles with dinosaurs to close-up photos of sharks’ denticles and dentition. Typically, a large shark photo occupies a little over half of a page, with a corresponding question printed in large font; the answer follows immediately underneath. For instance, a dramatically lit shark skeleton is paired with the query, “Do they have bones?” After declaring “NOPE,” a swift description of cartilage is provided. The pictures and large-print portions work especially well for beginning readers, while the brief info-packed paragraphs extend the book’s appeal to those in primary grades. - Copyright 2019 Booklist.
