Booklist - 10/01/2025 A playful format enlivens this volume in the Stars of Mythology series (6 titles). First, it introduces Hindu mythology, describing its main types of gods and demons, its three most important gods, and how gods appear on Earth in many forms. The bulk of the book, however, is divided into six retellings of Hindu myths. In each case, characters are paired. After they give a little background information about themselves, a story explains their connection. For instance, in “Love Conquers All,” Savitri, a princess, tricks Yama, a god of death, into bringing her dead husband, Satyavan, back to life. The stories vary in format, including a traditional narrative, a diary entry, an interview, and a comic. Colorful graphics that combine cartoon bodies with heads from historical artwork complement the book’s unconventional presentation. - Copyright 2025 Booklist.
