Booklist - 04/01/2026 At the end of this picture book, a tiger eats a dentist in the dentist’s office with its little boy owner looking on. Some readers may find this hilarious, but others may find it disturbing, especially at the lower end of the age range. Before the surprise ending, we follow a boy who leads an enormous tiger (so big that a full spread can’t contain it all) by a leash—and sometimes by the tail. “My tiger loved cake,” declares the boy as he and the tiger press their faces against a patisserie window filled with enticing cakes and cupcakes. The boy assures the nervous baker that his tiger only eats cake. The tiger, working through a trove of cakes, suddenly cracks a tooth, and the boy drags him to the dentist, who seals her fate when she forbids cake and asks what else tigers can eat: humans, starting with her, as it turns out. The mixed-media illustrations are filled with comic details and nicely startling changes of perspective. - Copyright 2026 Booklist.
