Booklist - 10/01/2018 Funerals can be a challenging and confusing experience for anyone; for children, those emotions are undoubtedly compounded. This volume in the Help Me Understand series (6 titles) attempts to break a difficult event down into understandable segments. Calm, unemotional chapters explain in straightforward language what readers might expect to encounter at a typical funeral. They explain that funerals may occur at religious centers or at funeral homes, and gently introduce the concepts of burial and cremation. Stock photos don't lend quite the intended air of gravitas, and though the text does mention that this is a time for family to be together, it skirts the difficult issue of how people may behave differently when grieving. Still, as a basic introduction to the funeral process, this is a serviceable, reassuring guide. - Copyright 2018 Booklist.
