Booklist - 03/15/2020 Through flowing, rhyming text, Donnelly introduces young readers to composting and its benefits to the environment. We follow the food as it is purchased at a market, enjoyed at home, and turned into scraps such as leftover peels, cobs, and husks that are put out to be recycled. The scraps are taken away and sorted, separated from unwanted bits of trash, such as plastic, and turned by bacteria into biogas, which in turn can be used to generate electricity. The colorful, almost vintage-style illustrations, paired with Donnelly’s clear text, relate the message of environmental awareness and the incredible power of recycling to reach the youngest readers without being overwhelming. A cycle diagram follows the text, clearly explaining the path food takes when being recycled for reuse. Further explanations about green energy and anaerobic digestion add important details on this incredible process.
