Full Text Reviews:

Booklist - 05/01/2020 Inspired by Anne of Green Gables, the author has written early readers (Anne Arrives, 2018; Anne's Kindred Spirits, 2019) and picture books (Goodnight, Anne, 2018) featuring Anne and using details from the novel. Children do not need to be familiar with the original to enjoy these versions, but adult fans will appreciate the references. George presents a recognizable Anne with long red braids, thinking, “If I couldn't be Anne, Anne with an e . . . I'd be . . .” and considering existence as a gull, rose, tightrope walker, dryad, wood elf, frost fairy, princess, echo, or the wind. One meta possibility envisions Anne as “an invisible friend who lives in a book, a kindred spirit to anyone in need.” Soft, dreamy pastel and colored-pencil illustrations employ shifting perspectives and effective use of shadows to portray Anne within elements of nature, folklore, or fantasy. While the story celebrates imagination and encourages creative thinking, the satisfying conclusion finds Anne appreciating herself and her real life, home, and direct experiences, including friendship. Some things, she says, “are even better than imagination.” - Copyright 2020 Booklist.
