School Library Journal - 05/29/2026 Gr 2–5—Haddow's third book in "The Terrible Trio" series is teeming with superheroes, cafe mysteries, and the importance of telling the truth. Zeb the zebra, Margarine the penguin, and Barry the lemur discover a box of lost and found items. Barry discovers a mysterious floating cape and thus begins his adventures as a secretive, masked crusader saving the city from villains and various crimes. He must decide whether he wants to share his new heroic identity or keep it a secret. The main characters are lovable, silly, and witty, and they each encourage each other to be the best version of themselves they can be. The dialogue is humorous and models the values of a genuine friendship. Dialogue drives the suspenseful plot forward and allows the characters to express feelings of joy, sadness, jealousy, anger and excitement. Speech bubbles contain simplistic yet meaningful language. The abundant black-and-white illustrations further enhance the text, adding contextual details supporting character development, conflict resolution, and setting. Character facial expressions add to the humor of the story. VERDICT A humorous, animal-centered chapter book that reinforces the importance of friendship, loyalty, and truth telling. Readers will learn that they can be the superhero of their own story without a fancy cape.—Brianna Amoscato - Copyright 2026 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
