School Library Journal - 04/01/2022 K-Gr 2—Sisterhood is about more than just sharing a family; sisters can also be those who choose to come together to make the world a better place. Emma is an only child and, though she loves her family and the street where she lives, she wishes dearly for a sister to share them with. One day, Emma gets her wish when two families of sisters move in, and the girls discover that each of their unique skills are even more powerful when they come together. But, when their secret diary winds up in the hands of the mysterious Mrs. Wigglestoot, the girls' definition of sisterhood is transformed once again. This book is a love letter to girls of all ages who find sisterhood both with their siblings and with their close friends. Representing many different skills, skin tones, and abilities, the characters in this story help to demonstrate that friendship is not limited to any one kind of person. The complexity of the plot makes this book best suited to elementary age readers, though the story is told through limited enough text that it is accessible to younger readers, as well. Filled with pastel colors and sparkly rainbow ribbons, the illustrations reinforce the magic that comes from finding friends with whom one truly connects. VERDICT Emma and her friends are an inspiration to readers of all ages, and their story is one that girlfriends will enjoy sharing with one another through the years.—Mary R.
