School Library Journal - 05/01/2025 Gr 2–5—The drama and emotion of being a six-year-old are captured beautifully in Henkes's pitch-perfect continuation of the "Miller Family" series. Sal is dismayed when her little sister Poppy moves into her bedroom and upsets the equilibrium; then she learns that her best friend Griff will be in the other first grade classroom when school starts, and his teacher seems so much better than hers. Henkes's gently leads Sal through her first grade year as she learns to accept the things she cannot change and find joy in the details. Henkes's tender treatment of his characters shines here, and kids will deeply relate to Sal's struggles and successes. A joy to read for all ages.
