School Library Journal - 06/01/2026 PreS-Gr 3—This Spanish translation of author/illustrator Ho's graphic early reader depicts a delightful snowy journey that two friends—Coneja and Ratón—undertake when they find a red mitten and are determined to locate its owner. Readers will enjoy Ho's brightly colored illustrations as Coneja dons the mitten on one ear and becomes more attached to her forest find while the noble trek ensues. When she and Ratón quiz friends about this treasure, Ardilla offers advice and travel supplies, but Tejón challenges Coneja and Ratón to consider the cost of giving up the mitten. Both also warn the duo to be careful in the wild. Following tracks that go uphill, the journey becomes harder as Coneja and Ratón travel farther away from home. After traipsing through snowdrifts, they encounter a hawk, meet Mapache, and come up with a clever idea to do the right thing! A lovely picture book for Spanish-language emerging readers who will find the characters' conversations easily accessible. Interrogative and exclamatory language also make this a wonderful read-aloud for discussing Coneja's predicament and talking about the importance of taking the time to return things to their proper owners. VERDICT A charming Spanish-language early reader graphic novel for collections in need of more friendship stories in this format.—Sharon Sherman - Copyright 2026 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
