Booklist - 03/15/2018 Kids these days are digital natives, so it makes sense to instruct them in how to safely navigate their online environs. This entry in the Let’s Find Out! Computer Science series (5 titles) identifies major threats lurking on the internet, starting with phishing scams and malware. Readers are cautioned against following links and opening attachments from unfamiliar email accounts, especially those requesting personal or credit card information The section on malware discusses different types (spyware, Trojans, etc.), what they do, and how individuals and companies can guard against them, for instance, with firewalls and by backing up data. Hackers and data encryptions are also addressed. The dated page design leaves something to be desired, but the information is sound, up-to-date, and relevant. A good resource for improving digital literacy. - Copyright 2018 Booklist.
