Booklist - 10/01/2023 In this delightful collection of short stories designed to help little ones go to bed, Klepeis, an accomplished storyteller, weaves together both enchantment and enlightenment. She brings her experienced touch to these tales, sprinkling her prose with sounds found in nature. From the wintry escapades of a squirrel to the intricate musings of a bowerbird crafting its bower to attract a mate, each fictional story incorporates natural behaviors of animals interacting with the real world. Klepeis purposefully crafts peaceful yet enriching stories to broaden the minds of our youth, nurturing curiosity. Furthering the book’s educational component, each story concludes with “The Science behind the Story,” a double-page spread that visually presents the featured plants, animals, and environmental concepts (such as the life cycle and deforestation). Adam’s sweet, soft illustrations are wonderful additions to Klepeis’ carefully crafted text, perfectly blending realistic details with huggable cuteness. Young listeners and readers will happily relax into these stories, which turn the act of sleep into an adventure. - Copyright 2023 Booklist.
