Booklist - 10/15/2023 This is an open-ended, science-based exploration of the possibility of life on other planets. Topics range from what evidence exists (stories about UFOs, unexplained phenomena seen by a multitude—sometimes hundreds—of people, inexplicable radar images, military pilot reports), what actually counts as life (microbes, evolution, DNA), the math behind measuring the vastness of the universe (including new galaxies being created every day), and, most importantly, if there are indeed aliens, why haven't they made their presence known? Where are they? These types of overarching conundrums are addressed in detailed, thoughtful chapters that consider documented facts, current and ongoing research, various hypotheses, and the occasional myth or media story. Krantz, an investigative reporter and podcaster (Wild Thing), writes in a cheery, chatty, first-person style, describing both her inquiry process and her findings. Researchers and report writers will appreciate the rich back matter, and both skeptics and believers will appreciate her insightful questions and transparent reporting—and come away with more questions than answers. - Copyright 2023 Booklist.
