School Library Journal - 01/12/2024 Gr 4–8—The sequel to a successful first installment, the story continues with a different main character. At the end of the first book, readers left Morgan, Zoey, and Daniel after they adjusted and worked out the Cool Code app with all its ups and downs. This new story focuses on eighth grader Morgan, but also on Marcus, a lonely sixth grader desperate to fit in. When he finds and downloads the Cool Code into his own device, it's clear that the app is leading him astray. Feeling guilty and responsible, the trio of friends try to get him to delete the app, and out of the trouble and chaos he's caused as a result of the AI's poor advice. Can Morgan, Zoey, and Daniel stop the CC before it's too late for Marcus? This sequel explores even further the social implications of "being cool" in middle school. With the characters learning from their mistakes in a realistic way, readers will be rooting for the three coding wizards as they try to rescue the underclassman from getting himself expelled. A good glimpse into this age bracket. VERDICT Give this graphic novel to fans of Kayla Miller. A first purchase for middle school libraries.—Carol Youssif - Copyright 2024 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
