Publishers Weekly - 06/01/2026 In Lavoie and Boldt’s mindfulness-oriented story, a young rabbit navigating big emotions learns to "take a moment, close your eyes, and breathe those feelings out." Rhyming lines describe several scenarios in which contented Bunny faces upset, as when "lounging at the pool,/ sipping lemonade in shades while staying nice and cool" comes to a sudden end due to an early closing. Though resultant feelings leave Bunny distressed, breathing "IN... and OUT..." frequently brings respite. When breathing doesn’t offer calm after the protagonist freezes onstage, Mama works with Bunny to find other helpful tools ("When feelings feel too big to bear,/ we’ll find what works for you"), including "hopping into action... finding a distraction" or talking things through. Realistic disappointments show how reactions can be hard to manage, while almost three-dimensional digital artwork reveals vulnerable Bunny working with a range of emotions. It’s a sympathetic portrait of emotional scaffolding that results in skill-building. Back matter features a breathing exercise and coping tools. Ages 3-7.
