Booklist - 08/01/2022 The first in a new series, this introduces spirited and inquisitive Abby Baxter. As she adapts to life on the OASIS International Space Station, she’s also anxious about starting third grade—will she be able to make friends and avoid making any mistakes that will get her booted back to Earth (to the embarrassment of her parents!)? She’s got to keep track of her little brother and things like gravity! In spite of these concerns, our Afro-Latinx heroine successfully leads the way in this STEM series that’s funny, futuristic, and full of ingenuity. Takashi’s delightful illustrations have a Jetsons flair and capture the diversity of the characters aboard the station. The book is appended with a glossary and science facts “for kids way back in the 2020s.” With Abby in Orbit, Loney has launched an entertaining chapter-book series for early readers. Curious young readers will gravitate to its quirky wit and the relatable character experiences that mirror common ups and downs. - Copyright 2022 Booklist.
