Full Text Reviews:

School Library Journal - 04/01/2021 Gr 4–6—Adding on three additional Rs to the ubiquitous green phrase "reduce, reuse, recycle," the new six Rs (refuse, reduce, reuse, repair, recycle, rot) express the impact everyday actions can have on the environment. The discussions one would expect are addressed such as single-use plastics, plastic bottles, composting, and biodegradable materials, but they are expanded upon and explained in greater detail. The books in this series shine a light on carbon offsetting, electronic waste, and material science as they relate to environmentalism. There is a refreshing offering of actions and swaps from washable cotton rounds to school-housed worm compost bins. Kids might not be able to have buying power for food selection or the ability to choose soaps/cleaners, but they can do classroom activities to make a difference. VERDICT Readers are encouraged to take action and be mindful about the choices they make from buying a toothbrush to washing their hair. - Copyright 2021 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.

Booklist - 04/01/2021 When your favorite pair of jeans gets too torn to wear anymore, what should you do? This entry in the Be a Waste Warrior! series (6 titles) offers numerous options, from patching to upcycling, that can help readers extend the life of their clothing and shop eco-consciously, whether thrifting or choosing brands that use recycled materials. Eye-opening statistics are scattered throughout the book in “What a Waste!” fact boxes, while the main text and “Warriors Can Try” suggestion boxes focus on realistic steps readers can take to make a positive difference through their fashion choices, such as opting for natural fibers rather than synthetics. Other topics addressed include the dangers of microfibers and problems associated with discarded sneakers and clothing hangers. An upcycling activity closes this action-driven primer. - Copyright 2021 Booklist.
