School Library Journal - 04/01/2002 K-Gr 2-These photographic puzzles celebrate seasons and holidays throughout the year. A January background of snow and evergreens is full of wrapped presents, nuts, a "bear sextet," and more. For Halloween, a ghostly dollhouse bathed in blue light conceals jack-o'-lantern flowerpots, a topiary rabbit, and a shadowy candelabra. Kids will enjoy the familiar game of finding the objects named in the brief text. While the photographs are not as brilliantly arranged as those in earlier books, eager puzzle solvers will gobble this one up, too.-Jean Pollock, King Country Library System, Seattle, WA Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information. - Copyright 2002 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.

Booklist - 02/01/2002 As in I Spy Gold Challenger (1998) and I Spy Extreme Challenger (2000), this book draws from the original I Spy volumes and recycles 12 colorful, double-page photographs, one for every month of the year. These large, highly detailed photos are paired with new rhymes that challenge children to look and find different objects from the original offerings that are perhaps more difficult to spot. In an appended section, Marzollo shows children how to create their own riddle rhymes, pointing out ways to recreate the rhythm (waltz time, Sweet Betsy from Pike, or rap) and the rhyme scheme. Although the series' many fans might prefer an all-new I Spy book, they'll find this a diverting alternative. - Copyright 2002 Booklist.
