Booklist - 09/01/2014 Given that it’s been 30 years since the first publication of McPhail’s picture book Sisters (1984), this welcome companion volume is long overdue. Meet two brothers: one is old enough to tie his shoes; the other is a little younger. Sometimes they bicker or compete, but at other times, they share, take turns, or help each other. One wears his soccer jersey inside out (“I think it’s cool”), while the other doesn’t (“I can’t even read your number!”). One likes the bedroom window shade up at night (“Too bright!”), and the other likes it down (“Too dark!”). Still, “they know, these brothers do, that they will stick together . . . / always.” The brothers’ relationship and individual viewpoints are made clear in the short, simple text and the inviting ink-and-watercolor illustrations. It’s easy for kids to see themselves in characters whose strengths, weaknesses, and idiosyncrasies are so realistically portrayed. A small, unassuming picture book with plenty of down-to-earth child appeal. - Copyright 2014 Booklist.
