Full Text Reviews:

Booklist - 06/01/2022 This addition to the Ordinary People Change the World series celebrates the life of superstar Dolly Parton. The text recounts Dolly’s now-famous success story of growing up poor in Tennessee with her 11 brothers and sisters through her award-winning songwriting and recording career. Whenever possible, the text uses Parton’s own words, adding color and flavor to stories about her singing debut in Nashville at 13, performances at the Grand Ole Opry, and making the movie 9 to 5. The story stresses how, even though people doubted and made fun of her, Parton always knew she wanted to make music and see the world. Parton shares that her favorite book growing up was The Little Engine That Could, and when her Dollywood Foundation started its book giveaway program, The Little Engine was its very first title. This selection follows the series’ established graphic-novel format, which includes photos, a time line, and Eliopoulos’ instantly recognizable illustrations. It seems like everybody loves Dolly, and this engaging account will help young readers understand why. - Copyright 2022 Booklist.
