Booklist - 12/01/2019 With the Renegades close to discovering her true identity, Nova/Insomnia has even less time to rescue her beloved uncle from an impenetrable prison and, when she is imprisoned herself, her plans seem doomed. An unlikely escape facilitated by dubious allies puts revenge against the Renegades back on track, but somehow getting even isn’t as appealing as it was before Nova pretended to be one of them and might just have fallen in love. The concluding volume in the Renegades Trilogy sustains the high energy level of the first two, Renegades (2017) and Archenemies (2018). Meyer effortlessly intertwines revenge and romance by hanging the story on Nova and Adrian, two people dominated by their elders’ expectations as they decide who and what they want to be. Her talent for engaging readers can be as refined as mourning the slow decline of a beloved artificial pet velociraptor, or as all-encompassing as the Armageddon-like clash of hero and anti-hero concluding the book. There is also food for thought about whether heroes can become the villains they pursue. - Copyright 2019 Booklist.
