School Library Journal - 06/26/2026 PreS-K—Basic dino facts get the informational early reader treatment in this jauntily illustrated installment of the "Beginner Books" series. From morning to night, goggle-eyed dinosaurs of many types carry out their daily doings. They wake, eat, swim, and fly: each activity is described in straightforward, brief sentences arranged in rhyming quatrains, with busy, Technicolor scenes accompanying. All is peaceful until a rumbling volcano sends everyone running straight into the sights of a fearsome Tyrannosaurus rex. Facts are skillfully woven throughout—of the T. rex: "She likes to hunt. She does it well. She has a super sense of smell!"—and vetted by a paleontology PhD. The mild dino drama resolves quickly when T. rex trips over a rock. Despite her ferocity, she's a baby who runs back to her parents' (tiny) arms, allowing the pack to continue on peacefully to bedtime. Depicted dinosaurs are labeled with their scientific names and pronunciations within the illustrations, which will appeal to many young dino fanatics. Some advanced vocabulary may prove too challenging for emerging readers, but this informational prehistoric tale is a pleasure to read aloud.
