Booklist - 02/15/2019 Though the books in the Absolute Expert series (2 new titles) pair high-interest topics with dynamic, magazine-style layouts, the information they contain is surprisingly robust. These new installments delve into popular scientific subjects, dinosaurs and volcanoes, with the assistance of a “National Geographic Explorer” at work in the field today. These experts chime in periodically with personal experiences they’ve had on (or training for) the job. Paleontologist Brusatte guides readers through Absolute Expert: Dinosaurs, starting with famous discoveries and dinosaurs’ evolution during the Mesozoic era (including a helpful dino family tree) and then presenting what fossil evidence has revealed—and continues to reveal—about dinosaurs’ lives, diet, and appearance, from scales and feathers to frills and coloring. Extinction theories and fossil study wrap things up. The books’ attractive design and tone will appeal to casual readers, but even those with serious interests will unearth scads of new information. - Copyright 2019 Booklist.
