Full Text Reviews:

Booklist - 11/15/2014 Colorful, carefully detailed, digitally created images highlight the distinctive flora and fauna showcased in the Ecosystem series. The titles follow a similar pattern, with a few paragraphs of text explaining each three-quarter spread illustration. Each volume introduces the physical habitat and typical animals and plants, discusses the system’s food chain, cycle of life and death, and changes over time before concluding with threats to the system from human activities and a very general map showing where each biome might be found in the world. Four pages of identification pictures include specific information about the organisms depicted and an invitation to readers to find them in the illustrations. The grasslands of central North America at the border between Canada and the U.S. are the focus for Who Needs a Prairie? Here the author-illustrator shows seasonal changes, underground action, and the way fire restores the system. Though slim, these visually striking and informationally sound overviews are an invitation to further exploration. - Copyright 2014 Booklist.
