Full Text Reviews:

Booklist - 11/15/2014 Colorful, carefully detailed, digitally created images highlight the distinctive flora and fauna showcased in the Ecosystem series. The titles follow a similar pattern, with a few paragraphs of text explaining each three-quarter spread illustration. Each volume introduces the physical habitat and typical animals and plants, discusses the system’s food chain, cycle of life and death, and changes over time before concluding with threats to the system from human activities and a very general map showing where each biome might be found in the world. Four pages of identification pictures include specific information about the organisms depicted and an invitation to readers to find them in the illustrations. The fish, corals, sponges, and other sea creatures who inhabit an area off the Yucatan Peninsula constitute Who Needs a Reef?, an introduction to the bountiful world of a tropical coral reef. Though slim, these visually striking and informationally sound overviews are an invitation to further exploration. - Copyright 2014 Booklist.
