School Library Journal - 05/01/2026 Gr 1–3—Christian is excited for his first soccer practice, and he's been honing his skills for weeks. However, when he arrives, Christian realizes that all his teammates are bigger and stronger than him. He loses confidence and is conflicted as to whether he should go back to practice. Instead, Christian's parents and siblings organize a "Super Soccer Day" where Christian rebuilds his confidence, practices his skills, and learns there's more to the game of soccer than strength and size. His playfully competitive family assures him that an athlete needs focus, determination, and confidence; those are superpowers bigger than physical size. Kissi's art is a highlight of this sweet family tale inspired by Pulisic's childhood. Christian and his family are cued white. VERDICT The lifelong lessons this book provides are not only for kids who hope to grow up to be professional athletes; a strong addition for young reader collections. - Copyright 2026 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
