School Library Journal - 02/10/2023 Gr 1–3—Claudia loves living in Unicornia, a place where magic exists and where unicorns are real. With her friends Sara and Paula, Claudia goes to school to learn fantastical things, including Historia de los Unicornios, where Professor Resabidilla teaches them all about the history of unicorns. When a group of baby unicorns are born at the unicorn refuge, the friends discover the beautiful black unicorn Nero. But people in Unicornia hesitate to adopt Nero, believing he is bad luck. Claudia, Paula, and Sara make it their magical mission to find Nero the perfect home. They teach Nero to fly, give him a bath with special shampoo, and take him to the center of the city so others can see how special he is. Although things don't go as they plan, the girls and Nero find an unexpected surprise and a happy ending. This lovely chapter book is perfect for transitioning readers and fans of fantasy and magic stories, with short chapters bursting with excitement and whimsical illustrations depicting the friends, their families, and Unicornia. Claudia and her friends experience happiness, excitement, frustration, and anger as they help Nero and try to understand the unfairness he faces. VERDICT A lovely entry in a Spanish-language chapter book series that shares the message that everyone is unique and special.—Selenia Paz - Copyright 2023 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
