Booklist - 01/01/2016 Shock value is a tried-and-true method for luring kids into learning, and the titles in the Freaky True Science series make ample use of it. Freaky Stories about Our Bodies covers weird bodily functions, such as polydactyly and hypertrichosis, and some strange advances in medicine, like fecal microbiota transplants, which are used to treat patients with gastrointestinal disorders. Though each volume only offers brief introductions to its freaky facts, the text is straightforward, enticing, and likely to encourage readers to seek out more. The dark page spreads and frequent illustrations and photos give it a moody visual atmosphere, and eye-catching layouts are easy to follow. - Copyright 2016 Booklist.
