Summary:
The Little Bighorn National Monument is an important American landmark. However, it doesn't evoke feelings of pride and patriotism. Rather, it serves to remind Americans about the country's complex history and the Native Americans' struggle to preserve a traditional way of life. The Little Bighorn National Monument is the site of a battle in 1876 between the U.S. Army, led by George Custer, and Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho peoples.

Full Text Reviews:

School Library Journal - 11/01/2025 Gr 1–3—Large-scale photographs and informative captions alternate with pages of text to introduce readers to landmarks such as the Liberty Bell, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial, and the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument. Each site is introduced, its historical significance explained, and information about visiting the location is provided. Details about the construction of the monuments and the dates they were founded or opened are also included. Along with images of the landmarks themselves, there are also maps showing their locations, photos of the work on the memorials, as well as visitors enjoying the landmarks. Boldface words in the text appear in the glossary. A table of contents and an index help locate needed information. There are also recommended books and websites for further research. VERDICT A colorful and useful introduction to historical landmarks around the U.S.; suitable for inclusion in a classroom lesson or for independent study. - Copyright 2025 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
