Full Text Reviews:

School Library Journal - 10/01/2015 Gr 3–6—This edition, revised and updated from its 1986 predecessor, takes readers to Earth's closest star, the sun. While much of the content remains the same as the previous edition, an author's note, glossary, index, and short list of four "Read More About It" websites has been added. Simon has revised points and offered further details on sun activity. For instance, Pluto is now listed as a dwarf planet. Although Simon has removed statements of uncertainty that have been clarified over the last nearly three decades, he still emphasizes that we do not know everything about the sun ("scientists are pretty sure that the (invisible) magnetic field loops back."). However, most impressive are the photographs and diagrams, which have all been updated, many of which are from NASA and provide greater detail and more clarity than those of the original version. VERDICT Fascinating photographs and revised text make this work a necessary update for library collections.—Meaghan Darling, Long Hill Township Public Library, Gillette, NJ - Copyright 2015 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
