Publishers Weekly - 06/08/2026 A mythical creature delivers sweet revenge in Wall and Murray’s Halloween-flavored story of comeuppance. Candicorn, a My Little Pony-like unicorn "made from golden leaves aswirl,/ harvest orange, moonbeam pearl," trots into Ghastly Falls one moonlit night and transforms the treat-hating, trick-loving town. But in the short time it takes her to carve cheery jack-o’-lanterns, knit sweaters, and brew warm cider, the local monsters become riled enough to send her packing in a hearse. Candi doesn’t go quietly, however; in response, she defiantly dishes out some "spicy" magic that transforms the sleeping locals into sweet treats ("Reapers carried lolly scythes/ Werewolves howled at full-moon pies") just as hungry trick-or-treaters, portrayed with various skin tones, come calling. Slick digital art features an aptly candy-colored palette, while standard rhymes take readers on a ride from discord to harmony. Peppered with loads of seasonal detail, this fanciful gambol spotlights a protagonist both sweet and salty. Ages 4-8. (July) - Copyright 2026 Publishers Weekly used with permission.
