Booklist - 05/01/2026 Come for the stunning, crisp, close-up photos of lizard horns, scales, toes, tails, dewlaps, flicking tongues, and colors. Ah, the colors! Stay for the equally amazing facts about these intriguing reptiles. Part of the ongoing The Truth About series, this exceptionally vibrant volume introduces lizard characteristics through a series of double-page spreads. Beginning with “What Is a Lizard?”, this herpetological guide goes on to answer questions about lizard habitats, anatomy, eating habits, mating, camouflage, defense mechanisms, and more. A large photo of a lizard in action anchors each spread, which also includes a few short paragraphs of descriptive text, more lizards in smaller inset photos, and a cartoonish illustration that reinforces the topic. For instance, a lizard eating its own shedding skin in a sandwich offers the right balance of disgusting and amusing. Concluding pages help readers consider whether lizards make good pets and spotlight some unusual species, while a final activity lets readers test their own tongue-flicking abilities. A beautiful addition to the series. - Copyright 2026 Booklist.
