Author Biography

   Tasha Tudor was born September 28, 1915 in Boston, Massachusetts.  She was educated at the Boston Museum Fine Arts School.  Tudor also has an honorary doctorate from the University of Vermont.  She has worked a farm and she has illustrated books for her husband, Thomas Leighton McCready, Jr.  Tudor helped start a small press, Jenny Wren Press, in 1989.  The author and her husband have four children, Bethany, Seth, Tom and Efner.  She lives in a house in the Vermont woods that is inaccessible by car and has no modern features.  Her hobbies include basketmaking, spinning, gardening and making dolls.  She is sometimes known by her given name of Starling Burgess.
   Tudor is best known for her picture books.  "Mother Goose" was a Caldecott Honor Book in 1945.  "1 is One" was a Caldecott Honor Book in 1957.
