Author Biography

   Florence Parry Heide was born February 27, 1919 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She died October 24, 2011. Heide graduated from UCLA. She worked for an advertising agency and a public relations firm and wrote a daily column for the Pittsburgh Press for 30 years. The author and her husband, Donald, had five children. Her hobbies included writing songs for children.
   Heide was best known for her chapter books and novels. "The Shrinking of Treehorn" was an ALA Notable Children's Book in 1971. "Growing Anyway Up" was a Golden Kite Honor Book in 1977. She wrote over seventy books. Heide also co-authored with her daughters Roxanna and Judith.
