Author Biography

     Leonard Everett Fisher was born in Bronx, New York on June 24, 1924.  He won his first award for drawing at age seven.  Fisher received both his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and Master of Fine Arts Degree from Yale University.  He worked as a teacher and school administrator after serving in World War II.  He also served as a delegate to the White House Conference on Library and Information Services in the late 70's.  In addition, Fisher has been the Dean of Paier College of Art.  He and his wife Margery have three grown children, Julie Anne, Susan Abby, and James Albert.
    Fisher is best known for his picture book art, often illustrating nonfiction.  He was awarded the Regina Medal in 1981.  He has also won the Christopher Award, the Kerlan Award and the National Jewish Book Award.
