Author Biography

   Anne F. Rockwell was born on February 8, 1934 in Memphis, Tennessee. She died April 10, 2018. Rockwell spent many years on an Indian reservation during her childhood, where she attended school and developed an interest in Native Americans. The author studied art at the Brooks Memorial Gallery in Memphis and at the Palace of the Govenors in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She studied sculpture at the Sculpture Center and etching and engraving at the Pratt Graphic Arts Center. 
   In the early 1950s, Rockwell worked for the production department of a publishing house and in the art department of an advertising agency. Her hobbies included painting, sculpting, printmaking, and traveling. 
  Rockwell will be remembered for her picture books. "Only Passing Through" was an ALA Notable Children's Book in 2001.
