Author Biography

     Else Holmelund Minarik was born in Denmark on September 13, 1920. She died July 12, 2012. Her parents brought her to the United States when she was four years old. She  was a graduate of Queens College with a degree in psychology and New Paltz College of the State University of New York with a degree in education. She worked as a teacher.  Minarik's hobbies included gardening. She had one child name Brooke. 
     Minarik was best known for writing early readers featuring "Little Bear." "Little Bear's Visit" was a Caldecott Honor Book in 1962.
