Author Biography

    Melvin Berger was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 23, 1927.  He attended the University of Rochester, Columbia University, and the University of London.  Berger played in the New Orleans Philharmonic Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Symphony.  He was a lecturer on music and a high school teacher.  The author and his wife, Gilda, have two daughters.  Gilda also writes children's books and has cowritten with Melvin. 
    Berger is best known for writing nonfiction in the science and social studies fields. The author has received awards from the National Science Teacher's Association, the National Council for Social Studies and the Child Study Association. He enjoys author visits.
