Author Biography

   Petra Mathers was in Todtmoos, Germany, a small town in the Black Forest, in 1945. Although Mathers did not like school, she always loved books. She pursued her passion for books by becoming an apprentice in the book business. Mathers worked in a book store for three years, while attending school for her apprenticeship. 
   She began painting in 1965. In 1968, she and her family moved to the United States. Her first American career was a painter although she has also worked as a waitress, cook and a bookstore clerk. 
   Mathers has illustrated books for a number of children's authors as well as the books she has written herself. She and her husband, Michael, live near Astoria, Oregon.
