Author Biography

   Stephanie S. Tolan was born October 25, 1942 in Canton, Ohio and was raised in Wisconsin. She wrote her first story in the fourth grade and decided then to become a writer. She majored in creative writing at Purdue University and went on to earn a Master's in English.
   In addition to writing, Tolan is an advocate for gifted children. She lectures throughout the country to parents, educators and counselors attempting to find ways to meet the needs of the children. She was awarded a Newbery Honor in 2003 for Surviving The Applewhites.
   Tolan lives on a lake in Charlotte, North Carolina with her theatrical director husband, Bob, and two dogs.
