Author Biography

     Faith Ringgold was born October 8, 1930 in Harlem, New York. She holds a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree from The City College of New York. Ringgold has worked as a painter and has taught art in New York. The author and illustrator is married and has two daughters. Ringgold's artwork is in public and private collections all over the world. She is a professor of art at the University of California in San Diego.
     Best known for her "painted story quilts," the author and illustrator received a Caldecott Honor and won the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award for "Tar Beach" in 1992.
