She graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in English. For two years, Angela taught English at a private school in Guadalajara, Mexico and wrote a notebook full of short stories which she lost on the trip home. In 2003, she returned to Kansas City and completed her MBA. Angela co-founded Las Poetas, a Chicana poetry group and began working at an international children's organization.
